The National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) released significant updates on Wednesday regarding the ongoing ‘Archaeology China’ national projects. These include progress reports on the Liangzhu ancient city and its water conservancy system in Hangzhou, the Sidun Site in Changzhou, the Chenghe Site in Shayang, and research on the origin and diffusion of the Austronesian language.

At the Sidun Site in Changzhou's Tianning District, numerous artifacts, such as pottery, jadeware, and stoneware, have been unearthed. Dating back 4,500 to 5,500 years, the site is characterized by an oval mound at its center, surrounded by over 10 small flat foundations, and encircled by dual water systems. The total area covers about 1.5 million square meters.

Researchers suggest that the Sidun Site illuminates the transitions from the late Songze Culture to the Liangzhu Culture, offering a fresh perspective for examining the developmental model of regional civilization in ancient times in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
